US Marshals: Fugitive child sex assault suspect possibly in South Austin
A man accused of the sexual assault of a child disappeared after questioning and now the U.S. Marshals are searching for him in Hays County and South Austin.
Manuel Nunez was 20 years old when he committed this alleged sexual assault. The girl was under 17.
According to records, the incident happened in April of 2011 when Nunez picked up two girls in Austin and took them to his house in Kyle.
"One female fell asleep and that is when Nunez tried to engage or did engage in sexual activity with this under aged child," said U.S. Deputy Marshal Brandon Filla.
The girl had run away from home and was spending the night with Nunez. "She had told Nunez 'no' on multiple occasions," Filla said.
When authorities found the girl, she reported the incident and Nunez was questioned. At the time he wasn't arrested but by the time the charges were filed, Nunez was gone.
"I believe this investigation will continue here in the Hays County area as well as the south region of Austin," Filla said.
As a way to find him, the task force pointed out a mark on the left side of his eye. "A birthmark, something like that where you have discoloration of the skin," Filla said.
Nunez does not have a criminal record but authorities are concerned there could be other incidents. "If he's done it once could he strike again," Filla said.
