Woman charged for stealing South Austin family's puppy
A woman accused of stealing a South Austin family's puppy has been charged.
Police say 40-year-old Heather Deann Johnson stole the dog Tuesday, July 25 from the backyard of a home near the intersection of South Lamar and Barton Springs Road.
The family went searching for her, and the next day with the help of a CBS Austin reporter, was able to track her down.
Officers apprehended Johnson, and she took them to an abandoned home in the 1500 block of Dexter Road where the puppy was tethered behind a shed, according to court documents.
The dog was returned to the family.
Johnson is facing charges of theft and possession of a controlled substance.
