Vigil held for mother of two killed early Saturday morning
TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas —
A man has been charged in a stabbing that left a woman dead in East Travis County early Saturday morning.
It happened at a home on Sojourner Street around 1:45 a.m. Deputies said when they got to the home they found a woman dead and 51-year-old Roberto Degollado. He was arrested and charged with murder in the case.
A neighbor says the victim’s two teenage sons were at her house about an hour before the stabbing happened. She says the two boys, 13 and 14, seemed nervous and did not want to go home.
The neighbor, Andreanna Galvan, said she didn’t realize something was wrong until deputies rushed to the neighborhood early Saturday.
“The next door neighbor called the police, and when I came outside, the little boy was saying ‘I was pushing him away from my mom, and he kept stabbing my mom, stabbing my mama over and over,’” Galvan said.
Neighbors set up a vigil Saturday night to remember the slain mother and show support for the boys.
“They need love. They need caring. They need a lot of support right now,” Galvan said.
Degollado was transported to the Travis County Central Booking Facility. His bond was set at $500,000.
The victim's identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. The Travis County Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause and manner of death.
