Two people indicted in shooting of Caldwell County deputy

The two suspects in the shooting of a Caldwell County deputy in February have been indicted.

33-year-old Edwardo Padilla and 54-year-old Kimberly Ashford Moore each face a charge of deadly conduct with a firearm, but a grand jurors declined to indict them on the more serious charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Both had been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct - discharge of a firearm back in February after the incident happened.

Deputy Jay Johnson was wounded in the shooting on Hidden Oak Road on February 2 and underwent several surgeries.

Johnson has been with the sheriff's office for less than a year.
