Man, child found dead in SW Travis Co. home was murder/suicide
UPDATE: The child found shot to death in a southwest Travis County home earlier this week has been identified as nine-year-old Lielle Kaplan. The Travis County Sheriff's Office says evidence indicates her death was a homicide. The man also found dead with her has been ID'd as Yariv Kaplan, 42. His fatal gunshot wound was self-inflicted.
Further details were not immediately available.
Investigators have identified the man found dead in a southwest Travis County home early Monday morning -- and they say he died from a self-inflicted gunshot. He was also found with a dead child with an apparent gunshot wound, but investigators have not released her name.
The Travis County Sheriff's Office says at approximately 5:45 a.m. they received a 911 call requesting deputies do a welfare check at a home in the 8000 block of El Dorado Drive, just west of the FM 1826 and West Slaughter Lane intersection.
Investigators say the first deputy on scene did not get any response when he knocked on the door -- but what he observed through a window gave him reason to believe the occupants needed immediate assistance.
Inside the home the deputy found Yariv Kaplan, 42, and a female child dead, both with apparent gunshot wounds. The sheriff's office says Kaplan's injuries were self-inflicted.
Positive identification of the child is pending, the sheriff's office says.
