Update: Round Rock fatality started as altercation inside truck
ROUND ROCK, Texas —
Just after midnight on July 4th a truck hit a person on the side of SH 45 near County Road 172 in Round Rock.
The crash was originally thought to have been intentional and involving two vehicles according to the Department of Public Safety.
Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody called the fatality a "complex" situation but said they now believe it was not intentional and only involved a truck pulling a boat.
He describes the incident as an altercation that started inside a truck between several people. He said there were six people in the truck.
The truck pulled over when the altercation began and three people got out.
The driver pulled away and either the truck or boat hit and killed one person.
Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the fatality but the investigation is ongoing.
The Texas Rangers were initially called in to investigate.
The crash shut down several lanes of eastbound SH 45 overnight. That section of the roadway was elevated. The roadway reopened before 4am.
The name of the victim was not yet available.
