Police: Austin man tried to sexually assault unconscious woman
An Austin man is facing charges after police say he sexually assaulted an unconscious woman at the Westin Hotel.
In court documents, police say a security guard was making his rounds on May 28th when he heard voices on the 20th floor near the workout room. After searching the pool, he went inside the men's bathroom at the workout center. He told investigators he found 33-year-old Andrews Raines sitting between a woman's legs on the bathroom floor. The woman's shorts and underwear were pulled down her legs. Raines was also partially naked.
According to the arrest warrant, Raines tried to put the girl's clothes back on, until the security guard asked him to leave. The guard went down to the lobby to contact an Austin Police Officer working off-duty security at the Westin.
The security guard and police officer returned to the 20th floor, where Raines was trying to leave in an elevator. They found it odd he would leave an unconscious woman in a bathroom.
EMS took the woman to UMC Brackenridge, while officers questioned Raines.
According to court documents, Raines told the officer he didn't know the victim before admitting they had spent the evening together. He said they had sex earlier in the evening, but would not answer further questions.
The victim told police she had no memory of that night. She also said she never gave consent to Raines.
Raines is charged with attempted sexual assault.
