Pastor gets standing ovation for 'sexual incident' confession
In Tennessee, a pastor at a mega church is apologizing for sexually assaulting a teenager at a Houston church decades ago.
Pastor Andy Savage made the confession Sunday in front of a congregation. His request for forgiveness got a standing ovation.
"As a college student on staff at a church in Texas more than 20 years ago, I regretfully had a sexual incident with a female high school senior in church," Savage said.
Jules Woodson says she was 17 years old when Savage assaulted her on a ride home from church. She says on the night it happened, Savage got down on his knees and apologized, but told her to keep it a secret.
Woodson says she told one person what happened. It was another pastor at the church, but she says he told her to keep quiet.
That person, Larry Cotton, now works in a leadership role at Austin Stone Community Church. The church is carrying out a third party investigation.
