One person dead in auto-pedestrian accident in Downtown Austin
The Austin-Travis County EMS responded to a call reporting multiple people struck by a vehicle.
According to ATCEMS, the incident occurred at I-35 and Cesar Chavez St.
ATCEMS says at least three people were hurt, one of them died on the scene. The two other victims suffered minor injuries.
EMS says a female in her 40s was found dead on the scene.
"I think I'm lost for words. I just like to pray for the family," said Shane Urich, who knows the woman who was killed.
According to Austin Police officials, a car lost control and hit the pedestrians under the I-35 bridge, after colliding with another car. They have not said what was the cause of the crash, or if any charges will be filed. They also have not released the identity of the drivers or victims.
People who work near the scene of the crash and walk along the sidewalks there said they are not surprised by this.
"It's dangerous just walking across the intersection, just getting from this corner over to the next corner, because you never know if they're going to slow down for you or just keep going," said Franklin Norwood, who works on a nearby construction site.
This is the third crash involving a pedestrian in the last three days. Two of these crashes resulted in deaths.
"Something like this happens, it's a tragedy, because you never know when it's going to happen. It could happen to you, just like me and you standing here right now. A car could lose control, anything," Norwood said.
