McCallum student accused of bringing gun to school identified
AUSTIN, Texas —
A McCallum High School student who is accused of bringing an unloaded handgun to campus on Wednesday has been identified.
Police say administrators were notified by another student that 17-year-old Kevon Tyree Walton was seen with a gun in his Spanish class.
When officers made contact with Walton, they found a small, black .25 caliber pistol in a brown leather holster tucked into the waistband of his pants directly below his navel.
In a letter sent to parents on Wednesday, Principal Mike Garrison said the gun was not loaded and Walton did not threaten anyone with it.
Walton is charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon, a 3rd degree felony.
