Man shot on South Congress Ave. dies; suspect still on the loose
UPDATE: Police say the man shot on South Congress Avenue Friday morning has died -- and they are still searching for the suspect.
The shooting happened at approximately 7:10 a.m. in the 600 block of South Congress, just south of East Riverside Drive.
Detectives say officers responded to a shots fired call and located 51-year-old Van Kevin White with obvious trauma to his body.
Austin-Travis County EMS arrived and began resuscitation efforts. White was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge where he later died from his injuries, police say.
Detectives say they are interviewing witnesses and following up on leads. And based on information currently available, they do not believe the public is in immediate danger.
No arrests have been made at this time.

A man suffered serious injuries after he was shot in South Austin Friday morning.
It happened on the 611 block of S. Congress Avenue, according to Austin-Travis EMS.
The man was transported to the University Medical Center of Brackenridge with critical, life-threatening injuries.
Police tell CBS Austin the victim is currently in surgery.
