A man charged with assaulting an officer during an ICE operation in Northwest Austin earlier this year has been sentenced.

Hugo Baltazar-Ramirez, 23, will face 18 months in federal prison for the attack.

It happened on Friday, Feb. 10, in the 13600 block of North Hwy 183, near Anderson Mill.

An ICE officer pulled over Baltazar, a Mexican national, and told him to get out of the vehicle because he was being arrested -- instead he ran away, according to the United States Attorney's Office.

When the officer caught up to him the two struggled. The officer's head was slammed against the ground several times, until a second officer arrived and they were able to arrest him, officials said.

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital and released.

The scuffle happened during a planned ICE operation throughout Central Texas.
