A man is facing a felony charge for a shootout at Northeast Austin gas station on Monday. And court documents say what led up to the violence was the man's cousin having a sexual encounter with the other shooter's sister.

According to the arrest affidavit, 21-year-old Tavaris Powers is charged with deadly conduct, a third degree felony.

It happened at the Citgo gas station located in the 1000 block of East Yager Lane, about a mile east of I-35.

The affidavit said Powers' cousin and the other man had agreed to fight at the gas station. But the other man showed up alone, and Powers was there to back up his cousin along with several other men. When the group approached, the other man pulled out a gun and started firing while trying to flee -- and Powers fired back.

Powers and another man from his group had to go to a local hospital for gunshot wounds. It's unclear if the other man was injured in the gunfight.
