Man charged for fleeing fatal SE Austin crash
Court documents have identified the driver accused of fleeing a fatal car crash last week in Southeast Austin.
According to the arrest affidavit, Juan Daniel Hernandez, 23, is charged with failure to stop and render aid, a second degree felony.
It happened Saturday, August 5, at the intersection of East William Cannon and Elm Creek, just east of the I-35 intersection.
A man in his 20s was killed after Hernandez's truck slammed into the driver's side door of his car as the man tried to make a left turn from Elm Creek onto East William Cannon, police say. When officers arrived at the crash scene Hernandez had already fled.
A witness at the scene was able to identify Hernandez as the driver of the truck. The affidavit says approximately 30 minutes after the crash, Hernandez's girlfriend tried to report his truck as stolen but backtracked after officers told her it had been involved in a fatal crash and asked her if his blood would be in the truck.
Online records for the Travis County Jail do not show Hernandez to be currently in custody.
