Longtime KUT and KUTX radio host Paul Ray died Friday at the age of 73, KUT reports.

Ray, a Texas Radio Hall of Famer, was the host of "Twine Time," a rhythm and blues show that has been a Saturday night fixture for nearly 40 years.

"His legacy will live on through the countless musicians he inspired and the fans who looked to him as an encyclopedia of musical history," said KUTX program director Matt Reilly. "He will always be an Austin treasure."

Ray founded the Dallas blues band Paul Ray & the Cobras, which helped launch musician Stevie Ray Vaughan's career.

Ray died at St. David's South Austin Medical Center. He is survived by his wife Diana.

KUT and KUTX will air a special tribute to Ray at 7 p.m. Jan. 23.
