LBJ High School employee arrested for inappropriate relationship with student
The Austin AISD Police Department says that a LBJ High School employee was arrested on October 12, 2017, after being accused of inappropriate relationship with a student.
According to reports, officers responded to a call reporting that 36-year-old, Stephone Mercer, a teacher’s assistant, was involved in a sexual relationship with a juvenile female student.
The call was made by another employee who reported the incident to the school’s administration.
Police say that on October 11, 2017, a victim’s friend told one of the employees that her best friend had sexual intercourse with the suspect inside of his truck.
AISD Police say both, the victim’s and the suspect’s cell phones were seized by the officers as evidence.
According to the affidavit, both cell phones showed a large amount of text messages between Mercer and the victim that indicated an apparent relationship of sexual nature between both of them.
Police say that the victim met Mercer when she started running track but wasn’t sure when the relationship started. The officer reported that the victim said she initially though Mercer was a senior or someone who just graduated based upon the way he was dressed.
According to the suspect, the relationship was consensual and he didn’t make the victim do anything that she didn’t want to do. The officer pointed out that in the texts messages was a lot of sexual talk between the victim and him. Mercer told the authorities that him and the victim had sexual relations only one time.
Stephone Mercer was arrested and faces charges for improper relationship between educator and student, a second degree felony. His bond was set at $30,000.
