K-9 Lobos seizes 23 Kilos of meth

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek say that on Friday September 01, 2017, at approximately 2 p.m. the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, SGT Randy Thumann and K9 partner Lobos, encountered a Chevy Cruze at the rest area on IH-10 at the 658 mile.

Sheriff Korenek say that after a consensual encounter with a mother, father and two small children SGT Thumann became suspicious the family may be involved in drug trafficking. A vehicle search revealed two aftermarket compartments constructed solely for transporting illegal narcotics. Seven bundles of meth weighing over 50 pounds with an estimated street value of $2.3 million were removed from the compartments.

The driver was identified as 35 year-old Jose Reyna of Laredo. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center with felony drug possession. The mother and two small children 1 and 4 were released.
