Investigation started after Travis Co. Jail inmate dies
A Travis County Jail inmate died early Monday morning.
The Travis County Sheriff's Office says Herman Titus, 21 of Austin, was transported by EMS to South Austin Hospital in critical condition, where he died shortly after arrival.
The sheriff's office says evidence suggests foul play was not involved in Titus' death.
He had been booked into the jail on May 23 for an intoxication assault charge and a parole violation.
Due to the recent passage of the Sandra Bland Act, the sheriff's office says it has requested the Texas Rangers conduct an independent investigation.
The Travis County Medical Examiner's Office has not yet determined the cause and manner of Titus' death.
