House expected to take up property tax reform
House lawmakers are expected to take up a property tax reform bill Friday.
Governor Greg Abbot has named this issue as one of his top priorities. He's made it clear that if the bill doesn't pass, lawmakers can expect a special session at the end of May.
Legislators were slated to take up the measure Thursday, but it was pushed back.
The bill would allow people to vote on property tax increases that cities propose beyond a certain amount.
Austin Mayor Steve Adler has spoken out against the bill, arguing it would take away resources like police, fire and EMS. Proponents argue it gives tax payers a say and creates transparency.
Lawmakers are expected back at the Capitol at 10 AM.
