SMPD police officer Ken Copeland laid to rest Wednesday
UPDATE: Officer Ken Copeland was laid to rest today. Family, friends and fellow police officers gather together to honor and say good bye for the last time to the first officer killed in the line of duty in San Marcos Police Department history.
The funeral services were held at the Community Bible Church in San Antonio.
Officer Copeland was part of the San Marcos Police Department for 19 years.
On December 4th, 2017, officer Copeland was shot and killed while serving a warrant.
It's been more than a week since officer Ken Copeland was killed in the line of duty and you can see flowers remain on the steps of the San Marcos Police Department.
This morning the funeral procession starts in San Marcos and ends in San Antonio where the funeral will be held.
At 8 this morning the procession begins at the Thomas Funeral Home; it will then take Wonder World Drive to get onto 35.
The funeral starts at 11 a.m. at the Community Bible Church in San Antonio
Since Copeland’s death last week, community members have rallied around his family.
the 100 Club of Central Texas has helped the family out financially with their survivor fund, Tami Baker, 100 Club of Central Texas Chairman says "There's so much that they have to go through. And just having someone who has lost a first responder, there's that connection, and they're there to help them out." They say they’ll be here for the family for years to come.
The public is welcome to show their respects along the funeral procession route this morning.
