Each day brings a different rush hour in Austin
Every day brings a different rush hour in Austin, and drivers can save both time and money by avoiding those peak times.
The new MoPac express lanes increase in price as traffic gets worse. So analyzing the prices can show when rush hour begins and ends on every day of the week. It also shows when the worst times to be on the road are.
"Every day is a different story," Regional Mobility Authority's Steve Pustelnyk said.
Each day can have a different morning and evening rush hour. Analyzing those prices showed some trends throughout the week.
So getting the data from the first few weeks of the express lanes being open, CBS Austin found out the peak times on each day of the week.
Also, by using $1 price to use the entire express lane as a starting point and $.25 as an endpoint, CBS Austin found out when the rush hour times are for each day.
"At 25 cents that's telling you that MoPac is free-flowing," Pustelnyk said.
