A Department of Public Safety patrol vehicle collided with a school bus and an SUV Monday evening in East Austin.

It happened at approximately 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of East MLK Jr. Blvd. and Springdale Road.

Video from a witness at the scene showed the bus in the right-hand lane of westbound MLK that was struck head-on by a DPS vehicle. An SUV with damage to its rear was on the sidewalk.

Austin-Travis County EMS says there were 42 people involved -- 39 pediatric patients, and three adults. One adult male was transported to Dell-Seton Medical Center with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. One pediatric patient was transported with non life-threatening injuries to Dell Children's Medical Center.

The bus is with KIPP Austin Public Schools. A spokesperson for KIPP said the students on board the bus were from two different schools -- an elementary and a middle school. All parents of students on the bus have been notified of the incident.

Further details were not immediately available.
