Charges have officially been filed against the man accused of shooting at a family last November in Burnet County during a fit of road rage that ended when an off-duty officer drove by the scene and shot him.

David Meyer, 45, of Rockford, Illinois, has been recovering from his injuries since the attack.

It happened Thursday, Nov. 30, in the 1200 block of FM 1431 near Smithwick.

Investigators say Meyer rammed a family's car, then got out and started shooting at them. An off-duty Austin Police officer was driving by them at the time and shot Meyer in the chest.

Meyer is facing five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
