Cedar Park reacts to crash that killed two children
Cedar Park Police now identify the two young children killed in a car crash Wednesday as Elijah and Daniel Chaudhary. Elijah was eight ... and Daniel just turned one earlier this week. The driver, Zara Salman, was injured in the crash and is hospitalized in critical condition.
The crash happened in a very public place on Whitestone Blvd. near US 183, very close to the Cedar Park Walmart. And it happened in the middle of the afternoon so there were a lot of people out here.
April Travis told us, "There was people screaming. People were praying." She was working nearby on Wednesday. She says of the wreckage, “It didn't look good at all. But the community really got together and really wanted to help one another."
Travis says everyday people in Cedar Park came to the rescue. “They assisted in getting the driver out,” she added, “And eventually they went and got the children."
On Thursday police returned to the scene to take more measurements as they continue their investigation. And Elijah's school let parents know about the death and offered to help classmates get through this.
Meanwhile back at the scene Travis is thinking this would be a good place for people to gather on Sunday afternoon to pray for everyone affected. And that includes the driver to the truck involved in this crash. “Prayers out to her because this is going to be hard on her," she said.
Cedar Park Police have not yet identified the driver and passenger of the pickup involved. They were treated at the scene for minor injuries and released.
