Blue Bell issues voluntary recall over new listeria concerns
AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) - Blue Bell Ice Cream has issued a voluntary recall of some ice cream products due to concerns of possible listeria contamination.
The company says the products are those that contain chocolate chip cookie dough pieces purchased from an outside supplier named Aspen Hills.
Blue Bell says the products produced with the chocolate chip cookie dough pieces were distributed in 10 states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
This recall covers the following Blue Bell Ice Cream Half Gallons:
- Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, code 082618226
- Blue Bell Cookie Two Step, codes 080418222 and 081818224
Blue Bell Ice Cream Half Pints:
- Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, codes 081518242 and 082418242
Consumers should not eat the recalled products and are encouraged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
In April of last year, Blue Bell recalled all products after its ice cream was linked to 10 listeria cases, including three deaths in Kansas. Listeria bacteria can cause serious illness, especially in older adults, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems.
