The Austin Police Department, Region 1 and the Property Crimes Detectives are looking for the public’s help in identifying and locating a suspect wanted for theft.

According to the authorities, on October 28, 2017, the victim saw an ad on Craigslist for an RV for sale. The victim contacted the suspect and made arrangements to purchase the RV and mailed the suspect a cashier’s check.

According to APD the suspect cashed the check in a local bank in Austin.

The victim and suspect arranged to meet so the victim could take ownership of the RV, but the suspect never showed and has cut all contact with the victim.

APD wants to remind the public to be vigilant when purchasing anything online and provides the following safety tips:

  • Research the seller as much as possible.
  • Arrange to meet in person, if possible, in a public place and take a friend with you.
  • Be aware when asked to mail a cashier’s check – this is a red flag for a possible scam.
  • If something doesn’t seem right, trust your instincts.

Anyone with information is asked to call Region 1 Property Detectives at 512-974-5320.
