The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce and the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce announced their support of Major League Soccer moving to the city on Friday.

The Chamber called on Austin City Council to approve the move of the Columbus Crew SC MLS team to Austin, citing the potential for growth, new jobs and quality-of-life offerings.

Protesters were also present at the announcement, demanding any future soccer stadium not be built on public land.

Specifically, the protestors are concerned about the possibility of the new MLS team moving to Guerrero Park, which has been named as a top option for the stadium.

"A private venture like this is only going to put more pressure on the [East Austin] area and possibly add fuel to the fire on displacement,” says protestor Marisa Perales. Perales claims the group isn’t against a team moving to Austin, but thinks a new stadium is better suit on private land.
