50 horses found dead at North Texas sanctuary
More than 70 horses and 17 farm animals were rescued this week after 50 other horses were found dead at a North Texas sanctuary.
This happened at the "Over the Moon" sanctuary near Canton, Texas. The surviving horses were so hungry -- they were chewing away at nearby trees.
"They had not only begun, but they had made a significant dent in the bark off most of the trees they could reach in certain areas," said Maura Davies, a spokesperson for the SPCA.
The SPCA got a tip March 3rd. It was working with the owners to improve conditions until it found the dead horses earlier this week.
A judge will decide what happens to the surviving horses next week.
