1,000 people evacuated after spill at North Austin chemical storage shed
About 1,000 people were evacuated from a North Austin business Tuesday evening after a spill inside a chemical storage shed.
It happened at approximately 4 p.m. in the 3900 block of West Howard Lane, just west of the MoPac intersection.
The Austin Fire Department says the main building was evacuated as a precaution due to smoke from the spill.
Investigators say a 30 gallon acid container spilled inside of a containment room. No injuries were reported.
AFD says a private contractor will clean up the chemicals,
