Forever Families: Holiday Wishes delivers
The presents are wrapped and the delivery is underway for Holiday Wishes. A few weeks ago CBS Austin featured the program of Partnerships for Children that gives presents to local foster kids. Many CBS Austin viewers responded. Now the wish lists are almost filled and thousands of foster kids will receive their wishes this Christmas.
"I look at the little moments. the little moments when a child is happy for little things such as these presents," said CPS Adoption Supervisor Erika Settles.
Caseworkers are picking up the holiday wishes of kids in foster care and delivering them throughout the week. It's a private moment that makes for a lasting memory.
"We have to sometimes look at the small things that light up a child's face," said Settles.
Holiday Wishes is a program of the non-profit organization Partnerships for Children. This year, they had hundreds of Central Texans, including CBS Austin viewers, sponsor the wishes of more than 5,000 local kids in CPS care. It adds up to 15,000 gifts.
"We use the end of the year to celebrate and enjoy what they do have and just looking forward to the new year and all the things we can do for the kids that don't have forever families," said Settles.
CBS Austin's Forever Families along with PFC hope the giving continues next year by finding the one thing every child wants.
"I fully 100 percent believe there is a family for every child we just have to find it," said Settles.
There's still time to help Holiday Wishes with a financial donation to complete the wish lists of 400 more children. Go to their website for more information. CBS Austin Forever Families airs every Wednesday night at 6:30 pm and features a local child in The Heart Gallery of Central Texas waiting for adoption.
